The GoodWe ESA Battery Module 5.0 kWh (BAB5000-06-00P) is the smallest capacity option in the ESA series ("Energy Storage All-in-one") and is ideal as an entry-level module or for precise capacity planning in combination with larger modules. With an integrated DC-DC converter, the module can be flexibly combined with other capacities – even when retrofitting at a later stage. LFP cell technology ensures high safety and long service life, while a multi-level safety concept including integrated aerosol fire suppression provides additional protection at module level.

Individual DC-DC converter per module – flexibility in capacity and expansion
Unlike many battery systems where all modules must operate within a fixed voltage chain, every GoodWe ESA battery module has its own DC-DC converter. This has two practical advantages: firstly, modules of different capacities (5.0 / 6.0 / 8.0 / 9.0 kWh) can be freely combined within one system without the overall performance being limited by the smallest or weakest module. Secondly, new modules can be added to existing, older modules at a later stage without any complications – protecting the investment in the existing storage rather than having to start from scratch.
An important difference between module types concerns the charge/discharge rate: the 5.0 and 8.0 kWh modules (5.1 and 8.3 kWh rated capacity) support a C-rate of up to 1C – meaning they can be fully charged or discharged within one hour. The 6.0 and 9.0 kWh modules are designed for 0.5C. If both types are combined in one system, the lower C-rate of 0.5C applies to the overall system. For applications with high power demand – such as peak shaving or rapid discharge for e-mobility – a uniform configuration using the 5.0 or 8.0 kWh modules is therefore recommended.
For stacking: up to 6 modules per tower are possible with wall mounting, while freestanding installations are limited to 4 modules per tower. With wall mounting, module-type-specific limits apply per group – for the 5.0 kWh module (and the 6.0 kWh module) a maximum of 3 units is permitted, while for the 8.0 kWh and 9.0 kWh modules a maximum of 2 units applies. When different capacities are mixed in one tower, the lower of the two limits applies to the entire group. A single battery tower can cover 5 to 54 kWh depending on the modules selected. For more than 6 modules in total, a second or third tower with its own GoodWe Battery Expansion Kit for ESA Series is required (max. 3 towers per system) – allowing the overall system to be expanded to up to 12 modules and 108 kWh. For larger commercial applications, up to 6 ESA systems can be operated in parallel, enabling a total storage capacity of up to 576 kWh.
6-level safety concept: From cell to emergency protection
GoodWe officially divides the ESA series safety concept into six protection levels: Cell-Level, Electrical, Structural, Monitoring-Level, System-Level and Emergency Protection. At cell level, voltage and temperature sensors continuously monitor every individual cell. Electrical protection covers overcurrent, short-circuit and reverse polarity protection as well as surge arresters. Structural protection refers to the robust IP66 housing and the mechanical securing during stacking. At monitoring level, thermal monitoring as well as PV string and insulation monitoring run continuously in the background. At system level, the AI-powered arc fault detection AFCI 3.0 provides additional protection against cable fires. In an emergency, the final level – Emergency Protection – activates the integrated aerosol fire suppression directly in the battery module. The underlying principle: if one protection level fails in an edge case, one of the remaining five will typically intervene – making the overall system significantly more robust against individual failures.
